Marea Verde Mijas: fighting for their childrens' education


"Marea Verde Mijas" is a group of parents and teachers who are collaborating to spread information about the effects of recent austerity cuts in education in Spain.
At a meeting in Fuengirola, Digital Journal interviewed Emilio Calvo, a parent of two children, and president of a parents' association.

European Parliament rejects ACTA


It is now official - the European Parliament has today rejected the draconian Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in a plenary session.
Digital Journal reported recently that the International Trade Committee of EU Parliament had rejected ACTA.
ACTA was widely criticized over its likely assault on Internet freedoms and there have been many protests against the treaty, which would require signatory states to impose draconian restrictions on online privacy, in a drive to eradicate content piracy and the sale of counterfeit branded goods through the Internet... read more.

Gunman takes hostages in Germany — 4 dead, some injured


During an eviction, the gunman has taken several people hostage, including the bailiff. Police believe that one person is dead.

Update:  It has now been confirmed by police that 4 people are dead.
In the south-western German city of Karlsruhe, court bailiffs were in the building to clear the property of occupants by court order. The gunman was facing eviction for non-payment of rent. The eviction was scheduled to take place at 09:00 (08:00 GMT)... read more.

London Symphony Orchestra to perform music made by computer Iamus


While computers have been used for years to make music, one developed by the University of Málaga composes music all on its own, and the orchestra wants to perform it.
The Iamus software was developed at the University of Málaga, Spain and requires no human intervention when making music.
The Daily Telegraph says that the music is actually pretty good, and the London Symphony Orchestra is happy to perform it... read more and listen to the music.
