The U.S. President was chatting on the phone with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday. He was snapped holding a baseball bat while he talked.

Obama and Erdogan were discussing the ongoing violence in Syria, in which both the U.S. and Turkey are backing the anti-regime opposition forces.

Thousands of Israelis join anti-government demonstration

Two separate protests were held in Tel Aviv on Saturday. One was an anti-government rally, protesting recent tax hikes and a possible strike against Iran, the other a movement for a universal IDF draft.

One group consisted of Israeli students, social activists and the country's movement for equality in military service laws. One of their unofficial leaders, Stav Shaffir said, “The time has come for an all out war. 82-year-old nun shuts down US nuclear storage facility

A group of protesters, aged 57, 63 and 82 years, broke into the U.S. government's only facility for enriching and storing weapons-grade uranium in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The facility was shut down, after it failed to keep out the three trespassers.

Even though the three activists, who call themselves the Transform Now Plowshares, triggered security sensors when they cut their way through three protective chain-link fences, security staff were unable to intercept them, until they had reached the facility’s walls... read more.

Greenland giant iceberg heading out to sea (photos)

A giant iceberg which broke off the Petermann Glacier in Greenland is now on its way to the sea. Shipping may be affected.

Digital Journal reported on July 25 on the unprecedented ice melt in Greenland during July.

Now a giant iceberg, dubbed PII-2012, which broke away from the Petermann Glacier, has advanced towards the sea and is about to enter a strait separating Greenland from Canada. It is thought that this could affect navigation of shipping through this narrow strait.... read more.

NYPD will not provide defense for Police Officer Anthony Bologna

Police Officer Anthony Bologna of the NYPD was caught on video, pepper-spraying two female Occupy Wall Street members and now faces a civil lawsuit.

Bologna was seen on a YouTube video (above), spraying at least two girls, who had been kettled at the Occupy Protest on September 24, 2011. The girls fell to the ground, screaming and crying in pain, and Bologna purportedly turned and walked away.

Kofi Annan resigns as Syria envoy at UN Security Council

Citing finger-pointing and name-calling within the UN Security Council, Kofi Annan has resigned his position as Syria envoy.

UN chief, Ban Ki-moon says that Annan, who has been mediating the Syrian crisis as a special UN-Arab League Envoy, is stepping down from his post.

"Mr. Annan has informed me, and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Nabil Elaraby, of his intention not to renew his mandate when it expires on 31 August 2012," Ban Ki-moon said in a statement... read more.
