Monsanto Co. wants to take over Mexico's heartland with GM corn

If their requests are approved by outgoing president Felipe Calderón, Monsanto Co. and DuPont will be planting 2,500,000 hectares (more than 6 million acres) of transgenic or GM maize in the heartland of Mexico.

According to ETC Group, the consequences will be devastating for the heart of the center of origin and diversity for maize, and also globally. 

Mexico is considered to be the global repository of maize genetic diversity, as scientists have identified thousands of peasant varieties of maize.

Tens of thousands protest Mexico presidential election results

Accusing President-elect Enrique Pena Nieto of electoral fraud, around 32,000 protesters marched through Mexico City on Sunday.

The protest was organized by the #YoSoy132 student movement, and was organized to protest the “imposition” of the new president.

Chilling new video of US border patrol beating immigrant to death

In May 2010, a U.S. citizen was crossing the bridge from Mexico into the U.S.A. She witnessed the brutal violence of several federal agents against a Mexican immigrant, who later died from his injuries.

Now an amateur video taken by Seattle resident Ashley Young has come to light, which shows 42-year-old Anastacio Hernandez-Rojas lying in the fetal position on the ground while at least 12 federal agents repeatedly shock him with a stun gun.

6.9 quake hits Gulf of California & 7.0 quake hits Mexico City

Following closely on the heels of the 8.6 earthquake off Indonesia, Mexico's Gulf of California has just experienced a 6.9 earthquake.

Digital Journal reported yesterday on the earthquake off the Indonesian coast, followed by a tsunami warning, which was subsequently lifted.

And earlier in the month, there was a report of a 6.3 earthquake striking Mexico.

And now there are reports of a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hitting Mexico's California peninsula.

The epicenter of the tremor was 10.3 kms below the surface, and it occurred 133 kms from the town of Guerrero Negro.

No information is available as yet of the consequences of the earthquake.

On Wednesday, it was also reported that an earthquake had hit Mexico, shaking buildings in the capital, Mexico City. People ran from the buildings and there were no reports of major damage... read full article.
