Pentagon confirms X-51A WaveRider test flight a failure


According to the U.S. Air Force, a test mission on Tuesday of an unmanned hypersonic plane, the X-51A WaveRider, was a failure.

Video: NASA's Morpheus lander explodes on test flight


NASA says the Project Morpheus lander vehicle has "experienced a hardware component failure", and exploded during a test flight at Kennedy Space Center.
NASA's Project Morpheus lander was undergoing testing at Johnson Space Center in Houston for a year. It arrived at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 27 to begin about three months of tests.

Progress 47 re-docks at ISS in second attempt (video)


The Russian space freighter Progress 47 failed the maneuver last week, but has now successfully re-docked with the International Space Station.
NASA has announced that "The ISS Progress 47 cargo vehicle docks once again to the International Space Station’s Pirs docking compartment Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 9:01 p.m. EDT after a successful test of its new automated rendezvous system."
On Tuesday night last week an attempt to perform this maneuver was halted as a precaution, due to a system warning on approach... read more and watch video.

Pakistan tests nuclear-capable ballistic missile


Coming less than a week after India tested a long-range ballistic missile of its own, on Wednesday Pakistan successfully tested a nuclear-capable ballistic missile.
The missile, Shaheen-1A was reportedly aimed southward to the Indian Ocean and successfully covered some 4,000-4,500 kilometers.
