Video: French 'Spiderman' climbs world's highest steel tower



Alain Robert, otherwise known as the French "Spiderman" has done it again. He has added yet another building to his record of climbing achievements, this time in China.
On Saturday, he scaled most of a 388-meter (1,280-foot) steel tower in central China.
Robert has climbed more than 100 structures without ropes or other safety equipment, setting a record for "most buildings climbed unassisted" according to Guinness World Records... read more and watch video.

Series of earthquakes hits southwestern China (video)


A series of earthquakes in southwestern China has caused the death of at least 50 people and injured 150. At least 60 aftershocks were experienced and 20,000 buildings have been damaged.
According to Xinhua news agency, the largest of a series of earthquakes registered 5.7 on the Richter scale with the largest tremor striking the area at a depth of 14 kilometers.

Mind-controlled drones for the handicapped (video)



Chinese researchers at Zhejiang University have developed a system, called FlyingBuddy2 that allows users to control drones with their thoughts. Sound too much like SciFi? Read on.
The researchers developed the technology to help handicapped people, but it could also have many other applications.

Video: Chinese man builds his own Lamborghini Reventon



Ever dreamed of owning a Lamborghini? This Chinese mechanic not only dreamed about it, he went ahead and built his very own.
A Lamborghini Reventon is a rare car, as there are only 21 in existence.
If you could find one to buy, it would knock you back about $1.5 million.

6.2 magnitude quake hits far-western Xinjiang region of China


Following two earthquakes in Iran yesterday, it is now China's turn to be shook up.
As reported by the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), a 6.2 magnitude tremor hit today in far-western China. While there are no initial reports of casualties or damage, the depth of the tremor was 30 kilometers, which tends to increase the risk of harm.... read more.

Video: Flood sweeps Fangshan district in Beijing, China


Heavy rain, recorded at 46 centimeters (18 inches), fell on Beicheying Village in Fangshan District, Beijing last Saturday. Questions are raised as to officials' response to the disaster.
Digital Journal reported on the heavy rains which fell in China on July 22, killing at least ten people.
Now a video has been released (above) of the flooding in Beicheying Village, located in Beijing's Fangshan District on Saturday, when China's capital experienced its heaviest rains in six decades.

Hong Kong struck by Typhoon Vincente (video)



Hong Kong was hammered by the strongest storm in ten years on Tuesday. Dozens were injured and hundreds sought refuge in shelters.
The Hong Kong Observatory gave Typhoon Vincente the highest category 10 rating, as it slammed the territory on Tuesday.
More than 100 people were injured of which 72 are in hospital. More than 200 people headed for government shelters, away from the storm... read more and watch video.

Video: French 'Rollerman' stunt on Tianmen Mountain, China


Jean-Yves Blondeau is the inventor of the 31-wheel roller suit. Today he proved its worth by rolling down 99 curves and zigzags on China's Tianmen Mountain.
Known as the French "Rollerman", Blondeau, 42, is famous for his skating speed record of 110 kilometers an hour.
His famous roller suit has 10 parts, which include a helmet, kneepads, armguards and protective wear.

Heavy rains in Beijing, China kill at least 10 people


In continuing heavy rains in China, Beijing has been inundated with torrential rains, killing at least ten and stranding 80,000 at the airport.
Digital Journal reported on July 15 on the flooding and landslides in southern and central China, where at least 21 people were killed.
Now, in one of the strongest rainfalls in over forty years, Chinese TV is reporting that Beijing has experienced flooding in the streets, killing at least ten people.... read more.

21 people killed in floods in China, millions evacuated (video)


Torrential rain, floods and mudslides have continued to hit urban and rural areas in southern and central China. At least 21 people have been killed.
China's state broadcaster, CCTV has reported that the continuing floods are forcing residents to evacuate.

Video: Road-dividing fence collapses like dominoes in China


China's state broadcaster has released this amazing surveillance video, which shows a road-dividing fence literally falling like a giant row of dominoes.
It happened in the city in Jinhua, China on Tuesday this week. The 1.5 kilometer (0.9 mile) fence on the Shuanglong Bridge tumbled like a set of giant dominoes in just over 30 seconds.... read more and watch video.

Video: Young pandas enjoy their new playground in southern China


And now for something completely cute. Young pandas are introduced to their new playground at China's Chengdu Panda Base.
Frolicking just like a bunch of kids, the young pandas enjoy their first experience on a custom-built wooden slide.

Spectacular fireworks display plus protests in Hong Kong (video)


As Hong Kong celebrated the 15th anniversary of its return to China, a spectacular fireworks display was seen over the Victoria Harbor. On the same day, thousands of pro-democracy protesters gathered.
The incredible display was sponsored by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and lasted a full 23 minutes, beginning at 20:00. Large crowds of people were there to view the event... read more and watch videos.

6.3 magnitude earthquake plus mudslides from storms in China

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake has rocked China's Xinjiang region, leaving 34 people injured. No fatalities have yet been reported. However, mudslides from storms have killed 50.

China's Shenzhou-9 capsule returns safely to Earth


After a 13 day mission in space, the crew of the Shenzhou-9 space capsule have now returned home, successfully completing their mission.
The capsule, carrying the crew of China’s Shenzhou-9 spacecraft, has now successfully landed in China’s Inner Mongolia region. The success of this mission brings China a step closer to creating its own manned space station.

China launches 1st manned space flight, with woman astronaut

Three Chinese astronauts, including China's first female astronaut, blasted off in the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft today in the country's first manned space flight.
Launching the first manned space docking mission in China, and including the country's first ever woman astronaut, the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft launched successfully at 10:37 GMT from Jiuquan launch center in north-west Gansu province.

Video: Stray dog completes 1700km cycle race in China

A stray dog has just completed a 1,700km journey right across China. She followed a cycle race from Sichuan province all the way through to Tibet.
BBC reports that one of the cyclists saw the dog and gave him some food. The dog, who has been nicknamed "Xiao Sa", decided to stay with the cycle race.
Xiao Sa stayed with the race for 20 days and covered up to 60km a day. She also apparently climbed 10 mountains higher than 4,000 meters during her run.

Video: 3-year-old boy on toy scooter survives heavy traffic

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera in the city of Wenzhou in Eastern China. The child weaves his way through heavy traffic and survives.
The video shows the 3-year-old child pedaling without a care through the heavy traffic on his toy scooter, during rush hour, on a very busy street in Wenzhou, Eastern China. The child narrowly avoids being hit by many vehicles including buses.... read full article and view video.
