A shooting, two alligators, an exotic dancer and a pot plantation

While it sounds like the plot of a Hollywood movie, there was a report of a shooting at a quiet, suburban house in Washington State on Monday. Police following up on the report got a little more than they bargained for.

When Thurston County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the house, they found a very bizarre scene. They were greeted by an exotic dancer and two alligators, who were busy guarding a covert marijuana plantation.
Talking to local media, one of the detectives, Lt. Greg Elwin, said that the whole thing was like “a scene out of a Hollywood movie.”
On entering and searching the house, the officers found a full scale strip-dance pole and, even more surprisingly, an exotic dancer. In another room, they found the owner's pets - two five-foot (1.5m) hissing alligators, guarding the owner's weed plantation.
“They were there for protection for the marijuana grow area. They were just crawling around on the floor,” said Elwin.
The owner, 41-year-old Darren Shore, offered to help catch his pets, and managed to secure them in a nearby bathroom.

Getting back to the reason for the call out, when Shore was confronted by the officers about the reported shooting, he said he had opened fire in self-defense. Apparently someone had tried to run him over.
However, police believe Shore actually shot at a 30-year-old acquaintance, twice, possibly related to a failed drug deal. The man was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital for minor gunshot wounds and apparently released Tuesday morning.
Shore was taken into custody for an investigation of attempted murder. Police left the alligators behind, but contacted Thurston County Animal Control officials, as they were not sure if Shore was breaking any laws by keeping the alligators.
According to Elwin, they were left in the water-filled bathtub with some raw chicken parts to nibble on.

Statue streaker in central London poses naked for 3 hours, waving at onlookers

Braving a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, the man climbed the statue of Prince George in Whitehall, London, took off his clothes and proceeded to pose naked, waving at onlookers.

The incident, which happened at midday, brought London's traffic to a standstill for around three hours, as police feared the man might pose a security risk.Described as an inconspicuous man in his thirties or forties, he clambered up the bronze statue of Prince George, the Victorian-era commander-in-chief of the British Army, which is outside Whitehall, and houses the UK government and Ministry of Defence.

Striking various provocative poses, he even climbed on top of the feathered bicorne worn by the general, and attracted crowds of onlookers, taking photos with their mobile phones.

The incident attracted a response team of four police cars, two fire trucks, and four mounted policemen, who blocked off the area within 100 meters of the statue. This forced government employees to enter their buildings through alternative routes.

Eventually, after three hours, professional negotiators managed to urge the man to climb down. He was then detained under the Mental Health Act.

More images of the streaker can be viewed on RT.  Watch video of the incident at: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/337569#ixzz2D8DAaXV8

Monsanto Co. wants to take over Mexico's heartland with GM corn

If their requests are approved by outgoing president Felipe Calderón, Monsanto Co. and DuPont will be planting 2,500,000 hectares (more than 6 million acres) of transgenic or GM maize in the heartland of Mexico.

According to ETC Group, the consequences will be devastating for the heart of the center of origin and diversity for maize, and also globally.

Mexico is considered to be the global repository of maize genetic diversity, as scientists have identified thousands of peasant varieties of maize.

Should Monsanto's applications be approved, this would mark the world's first commercial-scale planting of GM varieties of a major food group, in it's center of origin.Basically this would wipe out all biodiversity, and all the various local varieties of maize, developed over around 7,000 years... read more and find out how you can help/sign petition.
