'Declaration of Internet Freedom' — to keep the Internet free

Many of the web giants and other organizations are joining together to sign a Declaration of Internet Freedom, to keep the internet free and open.

US Senator renews call for Assange to be prosecuted for espionage

While Julian Assange is still holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy awaiting possible political asylum, a U.S. Senator has renewed calls for him to be prosecuted for espionage.

Senator Diane Feinstein of the Senate intelligence oversight committee has reiterated the view that the WikiLeaks founder has compromised America's security.

Feinstein said that, "Assange had knowingly attained and disseminated information which could cause injury to the U.S." and that he had "caused serious harm to national security and should be prosecuted accordingly." ... read more and watch video.

Video: Oil sanctions only hurting EU — Iran doing just fine

As at July 1, the EU embargo on Iranian oil is in place. The sanctions are aimed at pressurizing Iran to curb its nuclear program.

Digital Journal reported on June 26 that the Iran oil embargo would start on July 1.

According to Iran, these sanctions are not really a problem, as the country has been stockpiling money and goods as a buffer.

Japan restarts Oi nuclear plant despite mass protests

Despite massive protests in Tokyo, Japan's Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) has restarted the Oi nuclear power plant in Fukui prefecture. Seismologists warn of the dangers.

Spectacular fireworks display plus protests in Hong Kong (video)

As Hong Kong celebrated the 15th anniversary of its return to China, a spectacular fireworks display was seen over the Victoria Harbor. On the same day, thousands of pro-democracy protesters gathered.
