TEPCO now under Japan state control in 1 trillion yen bailout



The Japanese company that operated Fukushima received a trillion Yen ($12.8 billion) bailout today, effectively putting the company under government control.

North Korea faces further dangerous thunderstorms (video)


North Korea is facing a new wave of dangerous thunderstorms, which could inflict severe damage. State media sent out an alert after a previous week-long flood killed 88.
Earlier in July, North Korea was hit by week-long flooding, killing 88 and injuring 134. The flooding left around 63,000 homeless and more than 30,000 acres of farmland were destroyed... read more.

Russia holds a day of mourning for flood victims on July 9


Russia has declared a day of mourning today for the 171 dead, and in honor of the more than 24,000 affected by the disaster. Questions are being raised as to the delays in warning residents of the coming deluge.
Digital Journal reported yesterday on the flooding in Russia's Krasnodar region, which has taken the lives of 171 people. Some 479 people, 48 children among them, have sought medical aid following the flood. Almost 3,000 people have been evacuated from the disaster area. Japan restarts Oi nuclear plant despite mass protests


Despite massive protests in Tokyo, Japan's Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) has restarted the Oi nuclear power plant in Fukui prefecture. Seismologists warn of the dangers.
