At least 42 people dead in Morocco bus crash


After a bus fell 150 meters into a ravine in the south of Morocco, at least 42 people have died and another 20 are injured, four of them critically.
The accident is reportedly the worst ever in the country and happened early on Tuesday morning near the town of Zerkten, in Haouz province, Morocco.

Pentagon confirms X-51A WaveRider test flight a failure


According to the U.S. Air Force, a test mission on Tuesday of an unmanned hypersonic plane, the X-51A WaveRider, was a failure.

U.S. F-16 fighter jet crashes in northern Japan


A U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jet has crashed in the waters off Hokkaido Island on Sunday morning, close to the town of Nemuro.
According to a spokeswoman for the Misawa Air Base, efforts are currently underway to rescue the pilot
The spokeswoman said that the F-16 jet took off from the U.S. air base in Aomori and crashed at about 11:30 Japan time (02:30 GMT) around 200 miles northeast of Hokkaido Island, and close to the town of Nemuro. Nemuro is 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) north of Tokyo.... read more.

Truck veers out of control as brakes fail in deadly crash (video)


Caught by a dashboard camera of a vehicle travelling the highway, a truck lost control when its brakes failed, and slammed into four other vehicles.
On the highway outside the city of Chelyabinsk in Russia's Urals, the driver of a heavy Volvo truck completely lost control of his vehicle when its brakes failed.

Indonesian air force plane crashes into Jakarta residential area


At least six people have been killed when an Indonesia Air Force plane crashed into a residential area of Jakarta today. The Fokker F-27 was on a routine training flight when it crashed.
There were apparently seven people on the aircraft, including the pilot, co-pilot, an instructor and trainees. All involved have been rushed to the air force hospital... read more and view video.

Black box found near Sukhoi Superjet-100 crash site

The search teams involved in the investigation of the crash site of the Russian plane have now found the black box. Investigations continue.
Today the search teams located the flight recorders of the Sukhoi Superjet-100 which crashed on May 9, 2012 during a demonstration flight.
Head of the search operation, Ketut Parwa, has told reporters that the black box was found 100 meters from the tail of the crashed plane.
A team of Russian experts and Indonesian searchers have been searching on the densely forested Mount Salak for some days.
Tatang Kurniadi, chief of the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) told the Jakarta Post on Monday: “We will first open the black box here in Indonesia.” ... read full article.

Close-up video of debris — Sukhoi Superjet-100 crash site

A video has now been released showing clearly the wreckage of the Sukhoi Superjet-100 aircraft which crashed into Mount Salak in West Java, Indonesia on May 9.
The Indonesian search and rescue team have now been able to locate the debris of the crash site in West Java, Indonesia. The video shows this debris in detail.
The rescuers are using 2 helicopters with nets to collect the bodies of the victims.
The Russian-made aircraft, which crashed during a promotional demonstration on Wednesday, had 45 people on board and no survivors have been found at the crash site on the dormant volcano.... view full article and video.

Video update: Sukhoi Superjet-100 crash site in Indonesia

While rescue operations continue at the crash site of the Russian aircraft, 14 bodies have now been found near the wreckage.
The video from a local television channel shows footage of the crash site including what appears to be the aircraft's tail marked with the Sukhoi Superjet-100's logo. Twisted pieces of metal and part of a wing are scattered on the slopes of Mount Salak.

Sukhoi SuperJet-100 crash site found — No sign of survivors

The crash site of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 which went off the radar yesterday has been found. There is no sign of survivors.
Digital Journal reported yesterday on the disappearance of the aircraft near Jakarta, Indonesia, while on an Asian promotional tour.
Rescue attempts continued this morning, with the finding of several bodies at the crash site of the plane in the mountainous region near Jakarta. Indonesian officials have tried to access the steep slope on foot and by helicopter, but poor weather conditions and fog have hampered their efforts. 3 helicopters and over 600 rescuers were involved... read full article.

Bus rolls off cliff in Taiwan — 15 people injured (video)

A bus carrying tourists from South Korea was visiting Taiwan's Taroko National Park in Hualian county when the accident occurred.
The video, filmed from another vehicle, shows the bus veer off the highway and roll off a cliff in the Taroko National Park in Eastern Taiwan on Wednesday. The bus was apparently crossing the Chinwen Bridge in the park when it overturned at 1:48 p.m.
The tour bus then rolled onto its side, but luckily did not fall down to the river below.
Apparently the cause of the accident was engine failure while navigating the steep mountainous road... read full article and view video.

Russia’s Sukhoi SuperJet-100 off radar — Crash or hijack?

The aircraft was on a demonstration flight in Jakarta when it went off radar screens on Wednesday. 44 people are on board including 8 Russians and 36 foreigners.
Ria Novosti states that a high-altitude crash or possible hijacking have not been ruled out by officials.
The plane did not return to the airport at the scheduled time. Apparently by that time, fuel would have been totally spent.

Video: inferno when tanker catches alight in California crash


Late on Saturday night in Glendale, California a car crashed into a gas tanker. The accident caused a fiery inferno which took 150 firefighters to extinguish.
It happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 134 in Glendale, California, close to the junction with Highway 5. Police have said that a car crashed into the gasoline tanker truck.
RT reports that the crash caused black smoke and flames to shoot into the air and both arteries of the highway were clogged with traffic, unable to pass the scene of the accident.
This is the second major tanker truck fire to close the Southland freeway bridges in the last 4 months... read full article.
