Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: 'No on 37' misleading public


The "No on 37" campaign, opposing the proposition to label GMOs in California, has once again hit trouble for misleading the public. This time from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The latest critique to the "No on 37" campaign comes in the form of a press release from the world's largest organization for food and nutrition professionals, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Border Patrol agent kills mother of five


In Chula Vista, California, a US Customs and Border Protection agent has shot and killed a 32-year-old mother of five after her car allegedly bumped into the man.
At 13h00 on Friday, Valeria "Monique" Alvarado was killed on a residential street in Chula Vista, California. Border Patrol officials are claiming that the woman "assaulted" the officer by running him down with her vehicle... read more.

What happens when you attach video cameras to a whole load of hula-hoops and then just let those ladies spin? In an amazing display, Hula Burn 2012 shows you.
It all started with a simple idea of duct-taping a Go-Pro to a hula-hoop. Then it grew as more "hoopers" got involved, in the Black Rock desert in Nevada.

Boeing evacuates 500 over bomb threat on 9/11 anniversary


Boeing has evacuated around 500 employees from its Pennsylvania plant after a bomb threat on Tuesday morning. The warning note was left in a bathroom.
According to a Boeing spokesman, Damian Mills, the plant in Ridley Park was evacuated at just after 7:30 am, to allow authorities to investigate a possible bomb threat. “The threat related to one of our production facilities,” said Mills.
Police and firefighters were called to the scene and bomb-sniffing dogs were brought in to go through the facility.... read more.

It seems there is a talented and light-hearted traffic cop in Charlotte. He brightened everyone's day, dancing like Michael Jackson.
A while back, Digital Journal reported on a Filipino traffic cop who danced to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" while never missing a beat on the street and became an Internet sensation on YouTube.

Video: Aftermath of Isaac south of New Orleans


The video shows the aftermath left by Hurricane Isaac as it hit the New Orleans area on Tuesday, and pushed water over the 18-mile levee.
Dozens of homes are surrounded by water and the flood also unearthed caskets, and uprooted trees, at a local cemetery.

Deaf child must change his name sign as it resembles a gun


Three-year-old Hunter Spanjer is deaf. He has been told by a Nebraska public school to change his name sign, as it resembles a gun, or face expulsion.
The school's policies have outraged both parents, right groups and ordinary citizens.

Occupy Oakland rally in support of South African Miners (photos)


On Friday, August 24, Occupy Oakland was out in the streets, rallying in support of the striking Marikana miners, gunned down recently by South African police.

Raid on Ecuador embassy would be akin to 'act of war' (video)


British police have surrounded the Ecuadorian embassy in London and breached the building. Should they enter the embassy to arrest Julian Assange, this would be a sovereign attack on Ecuador and could be construed as an "Act of War".

John Unger's arthritic dog Schoep undergoing laser treatments



Remember the viral photo of John Unger, floating with his elderly dog Schoep in Lake Superior? Thanks to kind donations, Schoep is now undergoing treatment for his pain. And ladies, John is actively looking for a relationship.

Hannah Stonehouse Hudson, a photographer, captured a beautiful photo of Unger and his dog, having a therapeutic swim in Lake Superior. TrapWire: U.S. cities under total surveillance? (video)


In the latest release of Stratfor files by WikiLeaks, details about the secret surveillance program known as TrapWire have been revealed. Now WikiLeaks is suffering a sustained DDoS attack.
Shortly after the release was made by WikiLeaks, as reported on Digital Journal, their website and its mirror sites went under a sustained DDoS attack, allegedly by a group called AntiLeaks.

Sikh temple shooter died of self-inflicted wound


Wade Michael Page died of a self-inflicted wound to the head, after being shot by police, following the shooting massacre at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, near Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Fire in Aurora apartment building kills 2, injures 15


A fire broke out in an apartment building, just one block from the apartment of James Holmes, accused in the shooting massacre at the Aurora movie theater.
Two people were killed and 15 others have been injured in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in Aurora, Colorado.

Disneyland magic from a different perspective (video)


We Are Change has released a video about the magic of Disneyland - well, Anaheim anyway - the protests and riot police on the streets, and other police brutality.

Obama authorized covert US support for Syrian rebels


A U.S. government source has told Reuters that U.S. President Barack Obama signed a secret order allowing the CIA and other U.S. agencies to support rebels seeking to overthrow the Assad regime.

Kidnap victim found in Queens garage of NYPD detective


A 25-year-old man has been kidnapped and held for $75,000 ransom in a Queens, New York garage belonging to a New York Police Department detective.
The man was found, bound with rope and zip ties, in a garage belonging to NYPD detective Ondre Johnson. Johnson claims he is not involved, but has been taken into custody and suspended from duty.
The 17-year veteran of the NYPD, a member of a Brooklyn gang investigation unit, is not in prison and is not currently facing any charges... read more.
