Raid on Ecuador embassy would be akin to 'act of war' (video)


British police have surrounded the Ecuadorian embassy in London and breached the building. Should they enter the embassy to arrest Julian Assange, this would be a sovereign attack on Ecuador and could be construed as an "Act of War".

UK threatens to storm Ecuadorian embassy over Assange


As the decision over Julian Assange's asylum looms near, the U.K. is threatening to raid the Ecuadorian Embassy unless Assange is handed over for extradition to Sweden.
Reports from Ecuador on Wednesday state that the British government had threatened to raid its embassy in London if WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is not handed over.
After a meeting with President Rafael Correa, Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño told reporters, "Today we've received a threat by the United Kingdom, a clear and written threat that they could storm our embassy in London if Ecuador refuses to hand in Julian Assange." ... read more.

Video: Flood sweeps Fangshan district in Beijing, China


Heavy rain, recorded at 46 centimeters (18 inches), fell on Beicheying Village in Fangshan District, Beijing last Saturday. Questions are raised as to officials' response to the disaster.
Digital Journal reported on the heavy rains which fell in China on July 22, killing at least ten people.
Now a video has been released (above) of the flooding in Beicheying Village, located in Beijing's Fangshan District on Saturday, when China's capital experienced its heaviest rains in six decades.

Hong Kong struck by Typhoon Vincente (video)



Hong Kong was hammered by the strongest storm in ten years on Tuesday. Dozens were injured and hundreds sought refuge in shelters.
The Hong Kong Observatory gave Typhoon Vincente the highest category 10 rating, as it slammed the territory on Tuesday.
More than 100 people were injured of which 72 are in hospital. More than 200 people headed for government shelters, away from the storm... read more and watch video.

Tornado strikes Tsukuba, Japan — 1 dead, at least 30 injured

A rare tornado has struck Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan yesterday. Reports are that at least 30 people have been injured.
Japan Today reports that the tornado destroyed dozes of homes and has left thousands of people without electricity. Tsukuba is roughly 60 kilometres (37 miles) northeast of Tokyo.
The tornado struck at 12:45 p.m. and firefighters and helicopter medical teams were rushed into the area immediately afterwards.
Quoting Tsukuba Medical Center, Boston.com has reported 1 death, that of a 14-year-old boy who died after being injured in the storm. 10 other people are currently being treated at hospitals in the area... read full article.
