Judge throws Occupy Chicago arrests out of the court


92 Occupy protesters were arrested in Grant Park in Chicago last October. A Cook County judge has dismissed the charges against them.

Police in Antwerp, Belgium arrest 120 in anti-US protest (video)


200 Muslim protesters gathered in the city center of Antwerp on Sunday, protesting against the US-made film 'The Innocence of Muslims.'

As OWS members gathered on Saturday, ready for Monday's anniversary march in Wall Street, police swooped in and arrested 25 protesters.

Arrested Marikana miners assaulted in jail by S.A. Police


More than 100 cases of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm on mine workers, arrested during the recent strike at the Lonmin mine, have been opened against the South African police in the last 48 hours.
Digital Journal reported on the strike by Marikana mine workers at the Lonmin Platinum mine near Rustenburg, South Africa. During the incident a shooting massacre killed 34 miners, with a total of 45 people dead and 78 wounded.
Almost 260 of the striking miners were arrested by the South African Police and are being held in custody in police stations around the Rustenburg area... read more.

If Assange granted asylum UK will deny him safe passage


The U.K. foreign office is saying that even if Julian Assange is granted political asylum, he will be refused safe passage out of the country. Meanwhile, protesters at the embassy are being arrested.
Officials have stated that the U.K. will do all in its power to block Assange's safe passage to Ecuador, even if he is granted asylum by Ecuador. They claim they have a legal obligation to extradite Assange to Sweden... read more and watch video of protester arrests.

Three Al-Qaeda terror suspects captured by Spanish police


Spain's Ministry of Interior announced today that three al-Qaeda suspects were arrested by Spanish police on Wednesday. The suspects had enough explosives to blow up a bus and were planning an attack in Spain, or other countries in Europe.
Interior Minister Jorge Fernández Díaz noted that sufficient quantities of explosives to blow up a bus had been found in their Cádiz house, and that the material could have been especially dangerous if combined with shrapnel.... read more.

4 Critical Mass cyclists charged by London Metropolitan police


Of the 182 people arrested during the Critical Mass cycle ride in London on the day of the Olympics opening ceremony, four have been charged.
Digital Journal reported on July 27, on the arrest of members of the Critical Mass cycling team in London. While initial figures said that at least 50 members had been arrested, the final figure is 182.

Chicago NATO protesters indicted on 11 counts of terror


Three protesters, who were arrested prior to the NATO Summit in Chicago on terrorism-related charges, have now been indicted by a Grand Jury.
Digital Journal reported in May on questions into police involvement in alleged terror plots during the NATO Summit in Chicago.
Three men, Brian Church, Jared Chase and Brent Vincent Betterly, were arrested in an undercover operation, under the Illinois anti-terrorism statutes. They were detained on charges that included conspiracy to commit terrorism and also material support for terrorism, due to home-made beer-making equipment found in their apartment. Video: May Day marches in Germany explode into violence

The traditional May Day demonstration in Berlin turned violent as left wing protesters clashed with police. Arrests were made.
Around 15,000 people had set off late on Tuesday afternoon from Kreuzberg, a neighborhood of Berlin, heading for the city centre, but the demonstration was halted as left wing demonstrators clashed with the police.
Some protesters threw bottles, stones and firecrackers at the riot police. The police responded with batons and pepper spray. Arrests were made and over 100 people were detained overnight... read full article and view video.
