Video update: Sukhoi Superjet-100 crash site in Indonesia

While rescue operations continue at the crash site of the Russian aircraft, 14 bodies have now been found near the wreckage.
The video from a local television channel shows footage of the crash site including what appears to be the aircraft's tail marked with the Sukhoi Superjet-100's logo. Twisted pieces of metal and part of a wing are scattered on the slopes of Mount Salak.
On Friday, the rescue team used ropes to scale the sheer slopes of the dormant Indonesian volcano to reach the wreckage... read full article and view video.

DeKalb cop kicks pregnant woman in the stomach

A police officer from DeKalb in Illinois is in hot water for the third time in 7 months. He is now in trouble for kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach.
WSBTV reports that Officer Jerad Wheeler is being investigated after kicking Raven Dozier in the stomach when she was almost 9 months pregnant.
The news service states that no charges have been filed against Wheeler for kicking Dozier in the stomach when he responded to a call involving a child custody issue.
Dozier states that she was trying to calm her brother down during police questioning, after the police officer used a Taser gun on him.... read full article.

Sukhoi SuperJet-100 crash site found — No sign of survivors

The crash site of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 which went off the radar yesterday has been found. There is no sign of survivors.
Digital Journal reported yesterday on the disappearance of the aircraft near Jakarta, Indonesia, while on an Asian promotional tour.
Rescue attempts continued this morning, with the finding of several bodies at the crash site of the plane in the mountainous region near Jakarta. Indonesian officials have tried to access the steep slope on foot and by helicopter, but poor weather conditions and fog have hampered their efforts. 3 helicopters and over 600 rescuers were involved... read full article.

Tens of thousands to strike today over UK pension cuts & changes

Around 400,000 public sector workers in the United Kingdom will be joining a 24-hour strike over proposed changes to pensions.
The following sites can expect disruptions - airports, tax offices, driving test centers, job centers, colleges, military sites and museums.

Video of CA cops beating homeless man to death shown in court

Almost a year ago, 2 California police officers beat a 37-year-old homeless man, Kelly Thomas to death. Now video footage of the brutal attack has been revealed in court.
Digital Journal reported in September 2011 on the case against the 2 Fullerton police officers, Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli.
On July 5 last year Kelly Thomas, a 37-year-old schizophrenic homeless man, was so badly beaten and stun-gunned by Fullerton California police officers that he was left unrecognizable. He died 5 days later from blunt force trauma to the head... read full article and view video (warning! graphic!).

Bus rolls off cliff in Taiwan — 15 people injured (video)

A bus carrying tourists from South Korea was visiting Taiwan's Taroko National Park in Hualian county when the accident occurred.
The video, filmed from another vehicle, shows the bus veer off the highway and roll off a cliff in the Taroko National Park in Eastern Taiwan on Wednesday. The bus was apparently crossing the Chinwen Bridge in the park when it overturned at 1:48 p.m.
The tour bus then rolled onto its side, but luckily did not fall down to the river below.

Russia’s Sukhoi SuperJet-100 off radar — Crash or hijack?

The aircraft was on a demonstration flight in Jakarta when it went off radar screens on Wednesday. 44 people are on board including 8 Russians and 36 foreigners.
Ria Novosti states that a high-altitude crash or possible hijacking have not been ruled out by officials.
The plane did not return to the airport at the scheduled time. Apparently by that time, fuel would have been totally spent.

Stradivarius cello worth $20m damaged during photo shoot

The valuable cello was apparently damaged while being handled by experts during a photo shoot at the Royal Palace in Madrid.
The cello is part of a quartet of valuable instruments kept at the Royal Palace in Madrid, which includes two Stradivarius violins and a viola.
El Mundo newspaper (Spanish language) reported that the cello fell from a table during a photo shoot.
A National Heritage official has declined to say exactly what happened but did confirm that it occurred around three weeks ago. She spoke on condition of anonymity, in line with department policy... read full article.

Twitter hacked? Thousands of user names & passwords on Pastebin

Twitter has allegedly been hacked and tens of thousands of user names and passwords were published on pastebin.com. Should you be worried?
According to RT, the passwords for around 35,000 Twitter accounts were posted on the file-sharing website.
They state that Twitter tweeted: “We’re looking into the situation and have pushed out password resets to potentially affected accounts.”
However, Mashable is reporting that hackers affiliated with Anonymous had claimed this week to have published details of around 55,000 Twitter accounts.... read full article.
