Video: Baltasar Garzón interviewed on the case of Julian Assange


RT Spanish interviews Baltasar Garzón, leading the law team in the case of Julian Assange, WikiLeaks founder and whistleblower.
Assange is still holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and whilst Ecuador has granted him diplomatic asylum on the grounds of political persecution, he is unable to leave, as the U.K. will not grant him safe passage out of the country.

Video: Time-lapse ink sketch of Lower Manhattan skyline


A British artist has created a remarkable time-lapse sketch of the Lower Manhattan skyline from the top of the Empire State building in New York.
Patrick Vale wanted to prove that he draws freehand, and what better way to do this than to set up a smart phone on a tripod and actually film the whole process? The video has since gone viral on both YouTube and Vimeo and is named "Empire State of Pen."
Vale took four days to complete the ink sketch, sitting on the observation deck on the 102nd floor of the Empire State building... read more and watch video.

Video: Cameraman escapes deadly blast — At least 34 die in Iraq


Car bombs and suicide bombers have killed at least 34 people across Iraq on Sunday. In the video, a cameraman caught the moment of the second car bomb exploding.
Security officials have stated that in Iraq's northern oil hub of Kirkuk, 12 were killed, including seven recruits waiting outside the police headquarters of the state-run North Oil Company. The blast wounded a further 17 recruits... read more and watch video.

Video: Nicaragua volcano awakens spewing gas and ash


Showing ash and gas spewing out around 5 km into the air, the video of the San Cristobal volcano also shows the area being inundated with ash and volcanic dust.

Series of earthquakes hits southwestern China (video)


A series of earthquakes in southwestern China has caused the death of at least 50 people and injured 150. At least 60 aftershocks were experienced and 20,000 buildings have been damaged.
According to Xinhua news agency, the largest of a series of earthquakes registered 5.7 on the Richter scale with the largest tremor striking the area at a depth of 14 kilometers.

Bad advertising: Buchenwald victims used for slimming pills ad


In a case of really poor judgment, an Estonian newspaper published an ad for slimming pills, showing exhausted concentration camp torture victims to portray new, slim bodies.
On the image, published by Eesti Ekspress, a cynical inscription reads, “One, Two, Three… Dr Mengele slimming pills work wonders for you!” And underneath: “There were no thickset people in Buchenwald!” ... read more.

Op-Ed: Maps released of GMO crop experiments in Spain


Maps have been released, showing various locations in Spain, where permission was requested in 2010 and 2011 to experiment with genetically modified crops.
While there is no proof that these experiments have gone ahead, it is worthwhile noting the locations and the crops to be grown. Crops in the 2010 experiment map include corn, cotton, potatoes and beetroot.
Spain continues to cultivate 76,000 hectares of MON 810 transgenic maize (corn) on a commercial basis, with no knowledge available currently of the locations of this cultivation. Probably safest to say that any locally grown corn should be boycotted.... read more.
